FERNHOLME VILLA (ORIGINALLY KNOWN AS "FEMALE ACUTE HOSPITAL"), AND LATER THE OAKWOOD CENTRE, WAS ONE OF THE SATELLITE WARD BUILDINGS, CONSTRUCTED AT THE SAME TIME AS THE MAIN HOSPITAL COMPLEX; BETWEEN 1910 & 1913. THIS BUILDING, JUST LIKE THE MAIN HOSPITAL COMPLEX, WAS DESIGNED FOR A CERTAIN "CATEGORY / GRADE" OF PATIENT. DELIBERATELY LOCATED AWAY FROM THE MAIN HOSPITAL BUILDINGS, THIS BUILDING, TOGETHER WITH IT's "TWIN" (WILLOW HOUSE), HELD THE MOST DISTURBED, AND OFTEN VIOLENT OF FEMALE PATIENTS. AFTER A SHORT REPRIEVE DUE TO THE DISCOVERY OF BATS "ROOSTING" IN THE LOFT SPACE, DEMOLITION OF FERNHOLME VILLA TO MAKE WAY FOR THE NEW LINK ROAD (NORTHERN APPROACHES ROAD) BEGAN IN LATE SEPTEMBER OF 2011, AND BY THE MIDDLE OF NOVEMBER, ALL THAT REMAINED WAS A PILE OF RUBBLE.
