PHASE TWO OF THE RE-DEVELOPMENT OF THE FORMER SEVERALLS HOSPITAL SITE CONCENTRATES AROUND THE MAIN HOSPITAL COMPLEX, AND IS LOCATED IN AN AREA ORIGINALLY KNOWN AS "THE SEVERALLS". BOXTED ROAD FORMS THE WESTERN BOUNDARY, AND TOWER LANE THE NORTHERN EDGE OF THE SITE. TO THE EAST IS THE ROUTE OF THE NORTHERN APPROACHES ROAD (N.A.R. 3) & BEYOND THIS PHASE ONE (COMMENCING IN 2012), WITH MILL ROAD AND DEFOE CRESCENT FORMING A CRADLE TO THE SOUTH. THE ORIGINAL PLANNING APPLICATION IN 2001 PROPOSED TO RETAIN THE OUTER "ECHELON" OF WARD BUILDINGS, AS WELL AS A NUMBER OF "KEY" BUILDINGS, SUCH AS THE ADMINISTRATION BUILDING, WATER TOWER, AND MYLAND COURT. MUCH OF THE 300 ACRES OF MATURE GROUNDS WAS ALSO TO REMAIN AND BE RESTORED, AS THE GROUNDS WERE GIVEN "LISTED" STATUS BY ENGLISH HERITAGE AND ENTERED ONTO THE HISTORIC PARKS & GARDENS REGISTER IN 2002. FAST-FORWARD TO AROUND TEN YEARS LATER AND THESE PROPOSALS HAVE CHANGED CONSIDERABLY. A REVISED PLANNING APPLICATION WAS SUBMITTED IN LATE DECEMBER OF 2011, WHICH NOW PROPOSES THAT ALL BUT A SMALL PORTION OF THE MAIN "ECHELON" WARD RANGE BE DEMOLISHED, TOGETHER WITH MYLAND COURT & OTHER "SATELLITE" BUILDINGS. ONE NOTABLE OMISSION IS THE ORIGINAL CHAPEL, WHICH STANDS JUST TO THE NORTH OF THE MAIN HOSPITAL BUILDINGS -THIS IS NOT SHOWN AS BEING RETAINED ON THE REVISED "MASTERPLAN", AND YET NO MENTION IS MADE AS TO IT's DEMOLITION. ~ THESE PAGES WILL BE UPDATED FROM TIME-TO-TIME, TRACKING THE PROGRESS OF DEVELOPMENT OF THIS SECOND PHASE ~
